Acting to prevent homelessness
Frontline workers are uniquely placed to spot and stop homelessness in its tracks at an early stage. Understanding the help available to people who are homeless or in housing need will give you the confidence to make appropriate and timely referrals into the services that are designed to prevent and alleviate the issues that lead to homelessness in your local area.
Fighting for home relies on an army of people who recognise the trigger points that can lead to homelessness and know what help is available. Being able to explain what your client can expect from the referrals that you make will be key to bringing them on side and helping them to take their first steps towards a safe and secure home.
This course will include:
- The meaning of homelessness under Housing (Wales) Act 2014
- Local Authority duty to assess homeless applicants
- Local Authority duty to provide interim accommodation
- Introduction to key services in your local area (including My Home Denbighshire)
- Referral routes into further support
This course is for:
Frontline workers who come into contact with people on a daily basis, including (but not limited to): Teachers, GPs, health visitors, support workers, DWP job coaches, volunteer agencies, social services, youth workers, community leaders, police.
